Shopify Starter Plan: What You Need to Know
In today’s video, we talk about setting up a Shopify store for an artist and some of the unexpected challenges you might encounter. Just to clarify, this is not a sponsored video – it's simply an honest review from a developer’s perspective.
We’ll dive into the Shopify Starter plan, which is great for selling on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Spotify. While the plan offers useful features like a link in your bio and a Merch Tab for artists, there are a few things they don’t make clear upfront. For example, the Starter plan is only available during the free trial period for new shops, and you can’t downgrade to it from other plans. So, be sure to know what you're getting into before signing up.
We’ll also touch on working with Printful for Print-on-demand merchandise and how it connects with Shopify. Plus, we go over the integration with Spotify and the fact that you can only assign one collection per artist on the Starter plan.
While the plan costs just $5 per month, it comes with a 5% transaction fee, which is higher than the Basic plan’s 2.1%. Despite some of these downsides, it’s still a solid option, especially if you're looking to work with Printful and want to integrate with Spotify.
Finally, we compare Shopify with other platforms like Ecwid and SilverShop, sharing the pros and cons of each so you can make an informed decision.
